introduction

i was inspired by stickyarchives writing plans for 2021 and boyteared who wrote the original post about their writing plans for 2021! thank you both for sharing your insights, progress, and goals for the rest of the year - it was inspiring to read their reflections and i wanted to share mine as well. i thought this would be a good way to organize some of my thoughts and wips on the horizon, and as a way to juggle the many ideas that may or may not come to fruition.

on the horizon

soonboo gay besties (soonwoo/verkwan)

• i've been working on this since april/may but had to take a long break to write bday fics since then, so i'm excited to get back into this


• currently this is sitting at 20k words


• this is an au where soonyoung meets an unlikely friend, seungkwan (also known as ProfessorBoo98) through an extremely niche online community and against all odds, they end up becoming close. this is a story about friendship and what it means to find solidarity with someone who's lived experiences are similar to yours and really gets it. it deals with boy crushes and all these little feelings that can be hard, and how a good friendship can be so integral to navigating through all of this. spoiler alert: this is the first fic i've written where i made soonyoung cry.


• if you've been following me for some time, you'll know that i like to talk about seungkwan and hoshi's friendship and how adorable i find it. i think i could honestly write a whole meta post about it, how seungkwan once called hoshi unrivalled to other idols when he's in a reflective/introspective mood, and all the other things they've said about each other in between their bickering and bantering. and so i wanted to write an ode to their friendship in the form of...well, when you're gay...we always find our way to one another, don't we?

soonwoo figure skating

• this one is largely under redaction but this is a project that has been put on hold for several months because of all the gift fics this season but this is next in line after soonboo! i have a dear friend to credit for this au, and it is a collab i am so incredibly excited about!!!


• a little respectful and friendly rivalry...being the best you can be....pushing one another to grow :-)

soonwoo space misfits au

• a plotty space adventure with strong found family themes, inspired by this photo of hoshi during spider era. this is the conversation with my dear friend lesbianhoshi that also kickstarted this au and also helped me significantly in plotting out some of the more action/plotty climactic turn in narrative.


• this was inspired by a mixture of space sweepers (film) and gintama (animanga). wonwoo, jun, and jihoon are space mercenaries who run odd jobs to keep their ship afloat. jobs include cleaning up space debris, simple protection missions, etc. these missions come from a variety of sources, from low-level politicians, civilians, or from DLC Corp (...a working name), which is a intergalaxy organization that oversees trade and commerce. on one space sweeping job, they find android who introduces himself as soonyoung who convinces them to let him join their ship while he looks for someone named chan. this is a slow build story about chosen family.


• i'm excited to write this ESPECIALLY because wonwoo starts off on completely the wrong foot with hoshi and he does not like hoshi at first.


• this would be quite a long fic and in terms of 2021, i think i would have to choose between this fic or the next fic below.

soonwoo gsnk au

• another long plotty fic that was inspired by gekkan shoujo nozaki-kun


• set in college, soonyoung is a webtoon artist who draws romance webtoons. think kdrama - this was inspired by the fact that soonyoung loves romcom dramas. one day as he's returning home, he's stopped by his neighbour, wonwoo, who clumsily tries to confess. soonyoung misunderstands this as wonwoo being a fan of this, and because it's soonyoung's first time being recognized, he excitedly offers an autograph to wonwoo. not wanting to make an embarrassing situation even worse, wonwoo accepts. the next day, in an attempt to correct the situation with soonyoung, he accidentally finds himself roped in to help soonyoung with the webtoon instead...and so begins their working relationship and friendship. and more :-)


• i'm really excited to write this for a number of reasons: epistolary elements with scenes from soonyoung's webtoon, verkwan cameos...well, actually verkwan play a pretty major role in this, and writing a soonyoung and wonwoo that's ultimately about deconstructing and taking down the preconceived notions that you've built up of someone, of romance in your head.


• currently i have 12 chapters planned out in immense detail for this fic


• this is meant to be a collab with my dear friend asterismos_twt. she would write the verkwan side of this story :)


soonwoo creature feature fic series

• interspersed between all these different long, plotted out fics, i would like to write a fic series that consists of shorter fics, each of which would have different fantasy/magical realism elements.


• so far, the fics i have in mind are:


1. tiger demon hoshi and blood mage wonwoo, and their morally grey desires to take down A Common Entity


2. a cutesy romcom fic featuring hoshi who is part spider and has little fangs and venom and he wants so badly to kiss wonwoo but he's scared of accidentally paralyzing him with his venom if he gets too excited :(


3. kitsune hoshi. i have nothing else for this but. kitsune hoshi


4. ??? more to come! i just really like fantasy and magic realism and want to dip into worlds!




blue skies (wips that i'd love to write but are on back burner)



soonwoo - secret relationship au: i've plotted about 2/3 of this back in february of this year and then got stuck so it's forever abandoned until i can figure it out. it's a story about actor wonwoo who goes on hiatus and meets idol soonyoung and they start dating, and told entirely through media, weverse, etc. a fun little epistolary story that...also is the reason why i got stuck!

soonwoo - personal trainer/pilates au: i have about 5k of this written out and then i lost steam, but it was inspired by the soonwoo gym photos. pilates instructor soonyoung gets mistaken by wonwoo, the new personal trainer at the gym, as his client.

meta / threads / misc.



there are a few threads/meta posts i'd love to write one day but haven't had energy or capacity for, but i thought i'd mention them anyway!

1. a thread of all the times soonyoung was seen dancing in tiny in the background

• if you watch soonyoung sometimes, he's just dancing in the background and often in this very cute way. :(. it's so cute. we saw it on gose this week, but he's done it with itzy's wannabe, aespa's next level, hyuna's i'm so cool, and many more! it's adorable :(


2. a meta post analyzing performance team dynamics

• i've been super lazy with this but i started compiling all of my favourite performance unit moments since february of this year, including interviews, moments, photoshoots, and impressions from other units/members. i wanted to analyze their dynamics with one another, the way they communicate and collaborate, what leadership looks like in the team, etc. it's a big undertaking and i want to ensure i step away from having hoshi goggles in this, so i've been taking my time!


3. a thread of hoshi wanting to hold hands with other people

• this was inspired by a moment between vernon and hoshi where hoshi sees vernon's hand and he gets this little :3 face and reaches out to try and hold vernon's hand. vernon's hand retracted before he could :( but after that, i started noticing how whenever hoshi has an opportunity to hold hands, he wants to hold hands. he has another with vernon, a few with joshua, and he LOVES holding seokmin's hand. there are some cute ones with jihoon too, like when he thought jihoon wanted to hold his hand but jihoon was just playing with the vlive chat lmfaoooo. anyway i'm also lazy with this but one day i'll post it!


4. 17 soonwoo moments, a meta post

• i thought it would be fun to talk about my top 17 favourite soonwoo moments because i think some of them are underrated, especially during radio vlive moments or fansign moments. there have been a few factors that have stopped me from doing this and that is unlikely to change for the time being, unfortunately.


5. a meta post on soonwoo and gaming

• i have a collection of unrelated thoughts and musings on soonwoo and gaming on my twitter but i've been wanting to write something out that has my thoughts collected in one place and to expand on some of those thoughts on dreamwidth without the limitations of twitter's character limit, but i haven't had much energy...in case you want to read some of those disconnected thoughts, i have compiled them here though!




thoughts:



as always, i am ambitious with the amount of writing i do in a year. i took a good break from soonwoo for the past 3 months and wrote other pairings, but i'm evidently ready to return back to them. that being said, there are some other fics i'd love to write that i didn't include above because the plans are too nebulous so far. namely, i would like to write more soonhao and soonhan. there's also a wonhao fic that i would potentially like to write out too (thanks sticky and miet), but the queue is long so we'll see how it goes!

i had some writing goals last year, and that was to write some shorter fics and to write fics with more angst. although this year isn't quite over yet, i'm feeling like i have tentatively reached some of those goals - though i will re-evaluate in more detail with a year in review at the end of 2021 :). with this in mind, i have tentatively set more goals for me to reach; i want to step away from my comfort zone of writing fluffy romcoms (which are admittedly a favourite genre for me, especially for soonwoo) and to allow myself to sit much more with the heaviness, depth, and complexities of human emotions and relationships. this may extend to 2022. we'll see :)

lastly, i welcome any thoughts or questions on any of the wips i mentioned in this post! i didn't touch on my current multichaptered wips that have been posted in some capacity (the soonwoo kimchi fic, the soonhan thief fic, the soonwoo abo fic), but feel free to ask me more on those too :). again, i apologize that i don't have anon on cc enabled, but i welcome questions regardless!
